Another daytime powerhouse is soon to be making her Broadway debut! Sherri Shepherd will join the previously announced Keke Palmer in the Great White Way production of Cinderella. Shepherd, stepping in for Nancy Opel, will play the evil stepmother Madame to Palmer’s Cinderella beginning September 9 at the Broadway Theatre. The Daytime Emmy winner made the announcement on the August 5 episode of The View, which she currently co-hosts alongside Whoopi Goldberg and Jenny McCarthy. Shepherd will conclude her run on the talk show on August 8.
Shepherd returns to the New York stage after starring in Love, Loss and what I Wore off-Broadway. In addition to The View, for which she has shared a Daytime Emmy win and four additional nominations with her co-hosts, Shepherd has appeared on TV in Dancing with the Stars, 30 Rock, How I Met Your Mother, Less Than Perfect and her sitcom, Sherri. Her film credits include Precious, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and the upcoming Top Five.
In addition to Opel, the current cast of Cinderella includes Paige Faure as Cinderella, Joe Carroll as Prince Topher, Victoria Clark as the Marie, Ann Harada as Charlotte, Stephanie Gibson as Gabrielle, Peter Bartlett as Sebastian, Todd Buonopane as Jean-Michel and Phumzile Sojola as Lord Pinkleton.
Directed by Mark Brokaw, the production brings to the Broadway stage for the first time the tuner that originally aired as a TV special in 1957, starring Oscar winner Julie Andrews. This Cinderella features a completely re-imagined book by Douglas Carter Beane and additional Rodgers and Hammerstein songs originally composed for other musicals.
